The start of something beautiful...

Someone once said, “It’s a privilege to be tired from the work you once begged the universe for.”

“Tired” doesn’t quite cut it tonight. I would select flagellated, exhaustimicated, or even zonked… But am I happy? Oh yes.

Call me crazy, but our team of teachers and some pretty funky parents took 96 Year 5 and 6 students to Canberra for the week. Nothing like putting 100 kids on four flights and surviving four rather sleep-deprived nights to really give you some perspective on exhaustion.

But what a beautiful time it was.

We watched kids who were terrified of being away from their parents make it through a full week away, overcome challenges, and discover they could handle more than they thought. So many wonderful moments.

I just watched my footy team lose for the millionth time. I’m too tired to move off the couch, even though the bed is only 20 metres up the hallway. But happiness? I’ve got that in buckets.

I can’t wait to share my writing with you all. There’s so much in the works. This is the continuation of a ten-year journey for me. Every year, I sit in classrooms with kids and watch them start to believe that reading doesn’t have to be boring, that stories are for everyone, and that maybe — just maybe — they might have a story in them too.

Come do the journey with me.

I can’t wait to share Boringitis, The Shneedlevert, How Do You Wash Your Bear?, Mashed Potato Boy, and so much more.

With much hope (and weariness),

Matt Yost
